Motor Vehicle Accidents
Our lawyers at DC Law are prepared to assist with all types of incidents involving motor vehicles, including passenger cars, commercial trucks, motorcycles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and more. When traffic collisions happen, it’s usually because a motorist was careless behind the wheel. In the practice of law, this concept is termed “negligence.” To succeed in a claim for compensation, you must prove that the responsible driver engaged in unreasonably dangerous acts, directly causing the crash in which you were injured.
Examples include:
- Speeding above the posted limit
- Traveling too fast for conditions
- Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Failing to yield
- Ignoring red lights and other traffic signals
- Fatigued driving
- Failing to use a turn signal
And though there are laws prohibiting it and the dangers are well known, many motorists continue to engage in risky cell phone use while driving. They create a threat of harm to everyone on the road when they text, talk, surf the internet, post to social media, or take pictures.
You should also keep in mind that there are other forms of distracted driving that can lead to motor vehicle accidents. For instance, a motorist’s attention may be diverted from driving if he or she is:
- Eating or drinking
- Grooming and putting on makeup
- Playing music
- Using a GPS device
- Engaging in other unsafe activities
