Christmas will be here before you know it. Cities all over the country are preparing for holiday cheer, and Austin is no exception. Whether you live there or will be visiting for the holidays, there are plenty of fun family activities to do.

No matter what interests you, Austin has plenty of opportunities for kids and adults alike to enjoy themselves during the holidays. Check out some of the events listed below. Just remember to play it safe, since accidents and injuries can occur at any time.

Austin Holiday Events

Are you looking for some outdoor fun this Christmas season? A must-do activity is ice skating. Head over to the Whole Foods on Lamar Blvd. for some holiday fun. For $10, you can enjoy ice skating, hot drinks, holiday music and fun with family, friends and neighbors. The ice rink is open daily from November 27 through January 9. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If you’re into musicals, here’s one the whole family will enjoy. "A Christmas Carol" has proven to be a hit among locals and tourists alike. Presented by ZACH Theatre, the musical is a twist on the classic story. The musical score is more contemporary, spanning all genres and eras for a rockin’ good time. Recommended for ages 6 and up, it’s sure to be a fun family event.

Winter Wonderland at Circuit of the Americas is another family event you won’t want to miss. This holiday amusement park features millions of holiday lights. There are so many things to check out, such as ice skating, a petting zoo, carnival rides, human snow globe, singing trees, train rides, hot air balloon rides, camel rides, food, shopping and more. It is open to the public on 12/1, 12/2 and 12/8 to 12/30. Admission is $16 per person and includes free parking.

The Austin Trail of Lights is another event to check out if you’re in the area. Located at Zilker Park, this event features over a mile of Christmas lights, holiday decorations, rides, food and music. It has been around since 1965 and generally attracts 425,000 people every year. It runs for 15 nights, from December 9 – 23 in the evenings from 7-10 p.m. You can check out the schedule here.

Ring in the new year in style with Austin’s New Year 2018. Located at Auditorium Shores, this family-friendly event features music, jugglers, storytellers and other types of performances. This all-day event happens on December 31 and serves as a great cultural event for the entire family.
