Ms. Charles grew up in Houston, Texas and earned her bachelor’s degree in Government at the University of Texas at Austin in 1998. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, she worked for Texas State Representative Rene O. Oliveira on the Ways & Means Committee during the 76th legislative session (1999-2000).

Desiring to make the world a better place for all people, Ms. Charles attended St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio, Texas from 2000-2003.  During her time at St. Mary’s, Ms. Charles was a staff writer for The Scholar: St. Mary’s Law Review on Race and Social Justice, and her article Truth vs. Justice: Promoting the Ruel of Law in Post-Apartheid South Africa was published in 2002. During her summers at law school, Ms. Charles had the honor of clerking for the Honorable Alma Lopez, Chief Justice of the 4th Court of Appeals, and attending St. Mary’s Institute on World Legal Problems in Innsbruck, Austria where she was taught by former Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Antonin Scalia. Ms. Charles received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s Law School in 2003.

Immediately after graduating from law school and while studying for the bar exam, Ms. Charles worked for Hull, Henricks & McCrae, a boutique firm in Austin, Texas, doing medical malpractice defense litigation.  After two years of defense work, Ms. Charles came to realize that she wanted to help individuals against big and powerful insurance companies and give a voice to the voiceless.  In 2005, Ms. Charles began working for the Carlson Law Firm doing Plaintiff’s work in the field of personal injury litigation.  Ms. Charles worked tirelessly for her clients for over a decade with the Carlson Law Firm, and successfully handled thousands of personal injury claims.  In 2016, Ms. Charles returned to Houston to handle some family affairs, and while there she returned to defense work, representing insurance companies in first-party residential and commercial property damage cases. Once Ms. Charles’ family affairs were concluded, she returned to Austin and joined DC Law in the summer of 2020. In her free time, Ms. Charles enjoys being a mom to her 8-year-old daughter Sophia and playing with their dog Barley.
